FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What riders want to know before using kitcheck.cc, and before every ride.

What should I wear cycling today?

It depends on the feels-like temperature, wind, rain and how hard you ride. Enter your location above and kitcheck.cc reads the hourly forecast for your ride and gives you a kit list for head, upper body, hands, legs and feet. At a moderate pace in dry weather, as a rule of thumb: at 5°C (41°F): cycling cap, thermal base layer, winter jersey or softshell, thermal winter gloves, bib tights, thermal overshoes and thermal socks. At 15°C (59°F): jersey, bib shorts and regular cycling socks. Optional: arm warmers, fingerless gloves and knee warmers.

Is there an app that tells me what to wear cycling?

kitcheck.cc works in the browser on your phone or computer: free, with no app to install, no account and no ads. It uses the live forecast for your location or GPX route, and the advice is brand-neutral: it never recommends products.

Does it work in Fahrenheit?

Yes. Switch between °C and °F at the top of the page; wind and distances follow (mph and miles). Visitors in the US start in °F automatically.

Can I use my route?

Yes. Upload a GPX file and kitcheck.cc takes the forecast at points along the route for the time you will pass them, at the right altitude. It judges the wind against your direction and flags long descents and the coldest point of the ride. The file never leaves your browser.

How accurate is the kit advice?

It is a well-informed starting point based on the forecast's feels-like temperature, your effort and how warm you run. Forecasts can be wrong and people differ, so set your warmth tendency once if the advice runs too warm or too cold for you. How it works explains every step.
